Hello, I’m Kath Rooney, 68 years old, and a Lifetime Member of The Naturist Society Foundation. I am Secretary of the TNSF Board and was on NAC/NEF boards back in the 00s. I began my journey into naturism in the early 90s because I never got to go skinny-dipping as a kid and wanted to see what I’d missed. Turns out I’d missed pure heaven! I am a Gathering junkee and visit our local club – Turtle Lake Resort – to hit the water naked. I relish the feeling of a warm breeze on my skin as much as I cherish the open civility and welcoming kindness of the naturist community.
One of my personal campaigns is that more naturists should be out and proud about gettin’ naked. Everyone I know, and I mean EVERYONE, is aware that I am a naturist (though I tell the ones who are textiles that I am a nudist so they know what I’m talking about). I sympathize with those who have to stay quiet due to career concerns, but I hope they spread the word the day they retire! We are a small subset of the population, met more with giggles than belief, let alone respect. The only way this will change is 1) for more people to learn that we really do exist, and 2) for them to learn that they personally know or are even related to a naturist.
